Post Any advice on finding EFL ESL work in (Naha) Okinawa?
I will be moving to Okinawa at the beginning of 2007, with a BA in Linguistics and a basic certificate in applied linguistics and ESL, with a focus on adult education though I will be equally qualified to teach children. However, I will have no teaching experience. The web doesn't seem to be a great place to find information, as everything I've encountered has to do with the mainland. Any advice about where to look or what to expect (both job-wise or Okinawa in general) would be appreciated!

I taught in Japan for 5 years. I know what you mean. I have never seen a listing for Okinawa. There are a butt load of native speakers there. And a lot of these Army housewives teaching makes the price go down. Plus Okinawa is not like Tokyo, there is not nearly the economic activity and necessity for English, even still don't be discourage becaus most people are not as qualified as you. I could recommend three good sites but as I said I have NEVER seen an Okinawa job on there. The best thing I can say is try the newspaper in Okinawa and try asking around when you get there. Sorry I couldn't be more help and I didn't mean to discourage you. I think you will find something in the end. ESPECIALLY if you teach kids.
