Post Any teachers out there?
I'm currently in college to become an English teacher (likely for high school students) and am thinking about getting a tattoo which I have always wanted which meant a lot to me. If i get it, it will be on my wrist in very small script saying "La vita รจ bella" with a small heart that becomes a butterfly.

What would your school think of this during the hiring process? What are your schools policies against/for teachers having tattoos and/or piercings? I once had an english teacher who was allowed to have a small diamond stud in her nose in high school.. so i know there must be some sort of exceptions

if not, perhaps wearing a bracelet daily to cover it up will do?

Hi. I'm a teacher and when I started thinking about this I don't know anyone that I work with that has a visible tat.
I would consider getting it somewhere else.

Hello Sweetie, I must admitt , I am not a teacher, but I have many in the family, MY sister's ,and 2 neices. OF course many friends who are. I am also on the board of PTO and I am a mother. Now here is a little extra info, MY Brother in law owns a very upscale ( for a tatoo business) business. Many officials come to him for tatoos. I have seen some people that I would of never guessed getting things I couldnt imagine......but anyways, they all have ways of "hiding" their art work.
As for the wrist, you can cover it up by wear a large braclet over top of it, to make sure NO part of it shows during the interviewing process. BUT if you can hold off, possiblly until after you have your first teaching job under your belt, then you may not have to hide your tatoo under your sleeve.
Here is other options, which you probably are aware of, under your shirt, like side of the tummy, or lower back. Your shoulder ( back side) or your chest. Maybe your ankle or your calf. Those places wouldnt be seen unless you are wearing a low cut shirt, short tshirt ,skirt or shorts . Yet you would still have your tatoo.
I know you should be doing your internship, ( if you havent started already) , so maybe you could wait and talk to your school you are doing internship at as to what they feel. They may offer you an employment op right out of college. Then you would know their policies and also they would be aware of your longing for a tat. ( and many teachers, principals, board members, ect. have them)
Whatever you choose, Good LUCK and God BLess.

i'm not a teacher but i got in trouble when i pointed out one of my substitute teachers tattoo's on her back. Someone pointed it out to me and me being the loudmouth i am spoke up. She said it was an invasion of her privacy, anyway what i'm trying to say is get it in a place no-one can see it.

My one teacher has a tattoo on each foot and one on her ankle and it's extremely visible every day, but nobody has a problem with it.
Another teacher of mine has a nose piercing.
If it becomes a problem, you could always hide it, but I think your idea is really cayooooot!!

I wouldn't risk it. If you want a tattoo, don't get it on your wrist. The first thing you do is shake hands with someone. Get it somewhere more discreet.

I'm not sure if the wrist is the best choice. I'm a professional, don't work with children, and still have to cover my tattoos after 2 1/2 years at my current company.

I might go for some place a little more discreet. Tattoos that are barely covered have a way a peeking out at inopportune moments.

I'm going into college for the same thing, and i also have a few tattoos. I don't know my schools policy but if they cant see it they cant do anything about it. I wouldn't suggest getting the tattoo on your wrist because it would be in plain sight. But if you have your heart set on it You could just wear chunky bracelets until your hired by the school of your choice ;)

I don't believe they can discriminate against aspiring teachers because of body art but they can find a reason not to hire you if they are close minded. I know teachers at my high school with tattoos but theirs are hidden.

Well I hope this helped in some way
Good luck!

I am a High School teacher and will tell you flat out that you are making a huge mistake. You'll never be hired in a public school, and doubtful of employment in a private school.

Why not just get it on your ankle.

What you really need is to get your priorities straight.

I would not get it on my wrist. I have 3 tats, and they are in places where they can be seen, but not when I am in business clothes. This will be with you for the rest of your life, and what you may think is cute now may not be in 10 years.

I am a preschool teacher and i have a tattoo (of a dinosaur) on my wrist. the kids love it and my coteachers/boss don't mind, something small like what youre thinking will not distract your students (which is what theyre afraid of) and it's not offensive in anyway, i think your tattoo sounds beautiful!

I am also going to college to be a teacher, only I'm going for middle school. I have a very big tattoo that takes up the top half of my back, one on my foot, and I'm about to get another one either on my hip or lower back. I chose these places because they are easily hidden. I'm a senior in highschool, but I've known that I wanted to be a teacher for a long time, so I was careful about the placing of my tats. I think yours would be easily hidden with a bracelet, and hey, after you're there a while, you'll have tenure and won't have to hide it. :-)

By the way, I love your idea. Its very unique.
