Post Are there any native speakers of English who like to learn Vietnamese?
I am a Vietnamese who is studying English and sometimes I am not quite sure about the usage of some particular expressions or wonder whether it is normal or idiomatic to use a phrase in one way or another. English is especially rich in synonyms, which can sometimes cause some difficulty to its learners. I would like to have some penpals who want to learn Vietnamese so that we can help each other in language learning.

Thank you for your attention.

Isn't Vietnamese a tonal language, like some other asian languages...? It seems that it would be difficult to learn without being able to hear it; at least, to establish a system of tonal standards against which to measure one's pronunciation. Tonal differences could be indicated in writing with diacritical marks, but you would have no way to inidcate which one represented which pitch.
