Do you think east-asian culture has taught children to have no voice?
I grew up in an east-asian more specifically chinese family. they are immigrants from some place in china. i myself was born here, never seen china. for all i know it may not even exist. i've been to mexico but not china. But I feel my parents have made me feel so modest. I'm the opposite of the loud and obnoxious people you see around. I almost have no voice. All of these respect for elders and authority. All these limitations. You even feel like your doing something wrong when your having fun. You feel guilty having fun, it means you aren't working hard enough at a goal to be succesful. Also if my parents aren't enjoying life, I have to act like I don't. I can't have fun if they aren't. Also I feel like I can't talk at the dinner table, and when there is guest around. They embrass me and I don't feel comfortable talking with friends at the table.
East asians what do you think? Also anyone else please tell me if this is kind of what happens in your family.

Not as dramatic as yours is, but there are limitations. I'm sure it's like that for all cultures, just that you don't really see it on TV and etc. Most of the time, I find that other cultures are more fake, while Asian cultures are more straight-forward.

Oh my!
My family is the opposite of yours. I am loud and I dared to voice out my opinions. Yes, I do respect my parents but that doesn't mean I have to obey everything they say.
I talk to them while having meals and engage in conversations when there's a guest in the house. Personally, I think it's akward if you're not talking to your guest/parents just because you're having meals. However, my parents don't allow me to eat and talk at the same time which I don't coz it's disgusting to see food rotating in the person's mouth.
On top of that, all the teachers in my school force students to speak up. Those who don't will get chided.
I guess I am blessed with my parents! They won't object to any interracial relationships as long as I don't get abused by my partner=)
By the way, you don't sound like a chinese. You seemed to be a korean coz all the koreans that I've met are extremely quiet. In fact, you look like a korean!
