Rory McIlroy is gearing up to spend most of his time this week working on his driving ahead of next week's Dubai Desert Classic.
The new World No 2 came close to winning in Abu Dhabi last weekend when he finished one shot ahead of Tiger Woods and one behind surprise winner Robert Rock.And this despite having to take a two-shot penalty for carelessly wiping sand off the fringe of a green during Friday's second round.
But the 22-year-old Northern Irishman felt there were a host of positives to take away from Abu Dhabi while admitting he still had some work to do with his Titleist 910 D3 Driver.
The reigning US Open champion hit less than 50 percent of fairways in Abu Dhabi but feels that while he is heading in the right direction with his Titleist 910 D3 Driver it's not yet good enough.
"(I'll) work on the same things that I was working on coming into (last) week, a little bit of posture, trying to get the club in the right position on the way back," he explained.
"(In Abu Dhabi) I improved off the tee every day. (On Sunday) I didn't miss a fairway until the 11th I think, and that was a big improvement and something I still have to work on."
The Ulsterman will skip this week's European Tour event in Qatar, but will be back in action in Dubai the following week.
The event holds special memories for him as it was the scene of his first ever professional victory in 2009.
This time he is almost certain to start as favourite for the title and is determined to arrive with his Titleist 910 D3 Driver in tip-top shape.
"Yeah, really looking forward to a course I've done well at before; and the great memories," McIlroy added.
