Dyson eyes Ryder Cup place
England's Simon Dyson is targeting a place in Europe's Ryder Cup team as a major goal in 2012.
Dyson, a two-time winner on the European Tour this year at the KLM and Irish Open, currently lies 16th in the Cup points list and 28th in the world rankings.
The 34-year-old narrowly missed out on a spot in the victorious 2010 side and is eager not to have a repeat of that come September of next year when the Cup is staged at Medinah Country Club in the USA.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: "I think I've improved from last year and if I can just keep doing what I'm doing with
Nike+VR-S+Irons, then I've got a very good chance.
"I'm not going to beat myself up about it trying to get in it, I'm just going to let my Nike+VR-S+Irons
do the talking.
"I was very close last year. I did well in the USPGA and then I came back to the Czech Republic and I've got to be honest, I should have won that with the
Nike+VR-S+Irons I played, " he said.
"I just got little bit unlucky on a few holes coming in and if I'd won that I'd have had a chance of making it.
"I finished about fourth there and then I went to Glenneagles and had to win to get in the team and I finished fourth again. So I pushed it really hard and it was a shame."
Dyson is confident enough in his
Nike+VR-S+Irons to believe that it means the bar will be set very high in 2012 if he fails to qualify once again.
"If I keep playing how I have done for the last three months, if I don't get in it, they'll have a very strong side. If I do, fantastic," added the 34-year-old.
"It's not really about the money for me. It's about trying to achieve as much as I can.
"I've had six wins (on the European Tour) now which is pretty good."
