 Help - English?
Hi im doing an essay on strong views.
Im putting myself in the position of a person opposing the new education law of increasing the school day by an hour (made up law)
Can people think of some very one-sided arguments i could put forward and try to go in depth eg. reasons.
Thanks :)

 Re: Help - English?
Well, for an opposition position, you need to know what the proponents are going to say. You will need to respond directly to the benefits of extending the school day by one hour.
If the proponents say that it will allow students more time to study, you could counter with less time for extracurriclars, less time for independant study, increased stress levels for students, etc..
Another effective method to argue would be to approach it from the perspective of the school board. The School Board has to make the annual budget work, and it would cost money to keep the school open longer each day. You have to pay the teachers more, you have to pay janitorial staff, electrical bills, purchase books for the extra classes, etc.. This money could be better spent improving school conditions, replacing old text books, hiring additional teachers to reduce class sizes, pretty much anything you think the school could use the money for instead.
There are quite a few good reasons NOT to extend a school day... probably why they haven't yet =)
