I'm not into teaching children english and was really just wondering if it is possible to get labouring jobs. I know very little japanese and was just wondering if there were any avenues I could take????? I'd milk cows if I had to, just want it to pay my way!!!!

Go for working holiday!

If you have a valid visa that allows you to work in Japan, you won't have that of a hard time finding a job.

there are jobs for the English speaking foreigner that don't require extensive Japanese language skill. if teaching English to children isn't your thing, you might want to try bar tending. bars in trendy areas often hire foreign bar tending and wait staff because it attracts a trendy "international" crowd. "labor" jobs like construction and the like might be difficult because they would require that you understand Japanese enough to understand what your boss was ordering you to do. if you hate children but don't mind teaching adults then you could teach adults one-on-one or privately through a local city hall or international center. your success would definitely depend on where you wanted to live and how many other non-Japanese speaking foreigners were competing with you for jobs. check out www.gaijinpot.com for opportunities.

Other then this laboring job you are looking for, do you have any other income source? You might not be able to live very long in JP if you are just depending on surviving through working at a local 7/11. Expenses in Japan is super high....Which city do you plan to stay? I lived there for over 20 yrs....just thought I should tell you the situation there. Plus, visa might be an issue for you too.
Anyways, I have a friend that owns an American eatery in Tokyo. She mostly serve customers are that foreign to JP...All her menus are in English, and she is a fluent English speaker herself. Recently she is looking to hire someone who can help her out. Her place is very small...usually only 2 people work behind counter. Don't know if you are into food prep. but you can check her website out. http://www.cravings.jp
Good luck
