Post How and what to teach?
I feel very frustrated!!!! I can't seem to get my head around teaching English as a second language, I did my TEFL course and I have soooo many lesson plans but I keep asking myself the question, how do I teach a lesson if they don't know English??!?! I hope people out there understand what I mean, I know how to do it as such but I always think, okay first lesson do this what about second lesson, third lesson HELP!!!!!!!!!! I really want to teach Kindergarten but until that I will teach private to adults, any guidance will be very much appreciated :)

one thing you can do is provide your materials in their language as well as english. provide materials that will help them learn english, such as books on tape (ones with both languages) or videos.
you can also learn the vital words and phrases that you use in the classroom in their language and provide handouts for how they can ask common questions (like may i go to the restroom) in english.
for small children i recommend using simple language and materials with visuals.

Try teaching the Kindergardeners as much english as possible. Bring them to a computer lab and have them work on their reading skills on the internet. You can also have them read words in class and have them do special writing assignments. Maybe you could ask them to start writeing a journal at home and have their parents sign it. I know this seems pretty difficult for a child at this age to do, but they have to learn at some time, mine as well be sooner then later.

Hope this helps!

Just start slow, and use a lot of visuals and hands on experiences. You'll probably be surprised how quickly the kids will pick it up. Just know that you aren't going to start out with higher order thinking activities. Build up little by little. If you really want to teach Kindergarten ESL, then do it! The best way to get over your nervousness about how it will work is to just do it! Good luck!
