I have been learning english for a long time but I don't feel confident with my english. When I listen to music, I can understand but some parts, not everything, it happens also when I watch a Tv program.

I am not a native English speaker, but I´ve managed well enough to make top grades in my English classes in high school. My advice is to read a lot, so that your vocabulary, spelling and grammar improve, and speak as much as you can to work on your accent. Try watching movies in English with English subtitles, so you can understand any words that might slip you and practice imitating the accents.

It sounds like you're doing the right thing (watching tv, listening to music). One extra thing that you should do, if you aren't already, is make friends with native speakers and practice conversations with them. Real-life interaction is the best practice.

With the music it will happen to you all the time. You will have to practice, a lot, with english native speaker, even talk to yourself in english (or in any other lenguaje you may learn later on)

Enroll to an English subject.(Speech)
Read and practice using the language more often as possible.
Reading aloud is the best way to practice and engaging to conversation with English speaking people.

First of all, as an ESL teacher, I am surprised that my students will spend so much money to come to the United States to learn English, but only use English in class and use their native language the rest of the time. I feel that they need much much more exposure to English. So continue reading, watching, and listening to English as much as possible.

Second, just because you don't understand everything doesn't mean that you aren't doing well. I'm a native speaker, and I often don't understand everything in popular songs, for example. If you think about it, you'll realize that you don't really need to understand every word to get the main meaning anyway.

The problem with TV programs, singing and movies is that the communication is only one-way.
It depends whether you want to read, or speak, or both.
Once you have learned the basics, avoid language teaching books.
English language magazines and newspapers are better than books at helping you learn how to read English. There are also publications by government, as long as they use the Plain English guidelines and avoid complicated legal language.

The best help to speaking English is regular direct contact with native English speakers. The two way communication will teach you how they understand you, and will help you improve.
Insist on speaking English only.
The other people must be patient, and prepared to use words naturally and not deliberately speak to try and make it easy for you.
Have conversations with other English speakers in everyday situations, such as shopping, etc.

Understanding each other is the main purpose of communication.
There is no correct accent, only the best way to speak for people to understand you.
Don't worry about accents too much. It is more important to be conversational than grammatically perfect.

watch an american (or from any other eglish-speaking country) in your native languaje; then watchit in english without subtitles, you'll be able to relate everything you listen. Just make sure you really like the movie, or you'll just want to shoot yourself hahah
