Post How do you become an ESL teacher?
I want to know how to become an ESL teacher that meets national standards (not just a state) in the US, and international for extra info if possible. I'ld like to teach K-12 and Adult students. Do they have ESL teachers in Universities? I wanna find out how much you CAN study being an ESL teacher. Not that I would study everything, but I would like to know my way around the subject a bit more (n_n)

Lots of information and forums where you can ask these questions on the eslcafe.com.

Look at the teacher training forum.

Get a Masters degree in TESOL. You would need one to make money at the college or university levelbut its all part time-it may take you ten years to get to full time status as hiring is done from within.
You will never get a full time job in ESL at a college until you have worked part time for a number of years.
The part time salary at colleges is about $32.00 per hour for three or four hours a day. But at the community college level it is higher - about 50 to 60 dollars an hour.
You can get a BA in English and a TESOL certificate. That will help you teach both. Ideally you should get a Master's in English and a Master's in TESOL.
Get some overseas experience and learn the language in that country. Almost all ESL teachers have taught overseas.
If you need more info e-mail me at howiemayo@sbcglobal.net.
I have taught ESL for over twenty years.
Good luck

I have a multiple subject credential and a BCLAD certification (you are okay with a CLAD, though). I also have a master's in 2nd language acquisition.
