I obtained a Cambridge diploma overseas ICELT course (In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching) and I'm wondering what salaries in the U.S. go for these days. Also, which cities are in high demand.

I don't know how to answer this for you because it's not a nationalized education system here. Each school district (and there may be hundreds in each state) has its own salary schedule. Your starting salary could be anywhere from $30,000 to $45,000 a year, I'm guessing. It depends on the cost of living in that particular area. In most places, salary is based on actual years of teaching experience and education. Some school districts are experimenting with performanced-based pay, but that is controversial and not highly effective to my knowledge.

In most states, you would not be able to teach without the equivalent American certification, which would likely involve at the bare minimum, passing a subject area test and also possibly taking some course work here in the States. You're best off to just pick a state and city and start checking websites. Start with any place that has a high immigrant population, which is pretty much the entire country at this point. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good Luck.

It depends on what your first language is and where you decide to teach. If your first language is, say, Russian and you decide to teach in a town that has lots of Russian children you will do well because you would speak their language and be able to translate a word from Russian to English. (By the way, Russian is just an example.)
