Speaking in foreign languages if a gift from God , according to the Bible.
I think foreigh languages should be either optional from an age ...and but that age..the students who are unwilling to learn ..should attend the course without obligations ..they should take a mark only if they want to...I wouldn't learn if you would try to teach me surgery...
So ..you can have the lessons with some little movies of language with a plot...you can bring coloured photos and explain...
You can ask them to find words to express their opinion over a topic , find words to express what they , feel, think in some situation, you can ask them to make dialogues between one another..and as a homework...to make a short esay actually a short opinion over one thing from society etc...

Ask them to write a play and then they can act the play for other English classes.
Difficulty: it must be written and spelled with good English and they must pronounce their lines well.
Tell them about Dictionary.com
Do you have minorities? Then get them to translate from their native language to English and tell the whole class a story or article. If you have minorities whose first language should be English then get them to read books written by excellent minority examples; they must be given examples they can relate to and discover their circumstances can be overcome to a level of achievement they do not realize can be theirs.
Teaching old dead Englishman's works is out and they have to be involved. Later when they have mastered English to a degree; they can enjoy the old dead Masters of prose.

I have taught English as a Second Language to adults for 4 years. Find out what the students' interests are and go from there. Even before you know their interests, you can always play games and use music. Games are a great ice breaker at the beginning of the day and who doesn't like music? You can use songs to teach grammar, for ex. You can give treats or little prizes for the games. Sometimes just having discussions with students bring up all kinds of vocab, grammar, idioms and other lessons. Make it fun & interesting and they will learn to enjoy English! This website has great ideas for games, lessons & more: http://www.eslcafe.com/
