 How will I EVER learn Mandarin or Arabic? Okay, so both Mandarin and Arabic have odd structure and pronounciations compared to english. To add on to that, they use symbols Americans don't even recognize! How will I ever learn Mandarin/Arabic (writing/speaking/listening/reading)?? Any good websites? It will take years!

Re: How will I EVER learn Mandarin or Arabic? I know both! Mandarin was harder as it is tonal but I learned pin yin first. Arabic and Hebrew are Semetic languages and easier to learn as vowels are infused int he three letter root word.
You cannot learn these through websites and tapes. Take a course.

Re: How will I EVER learn Mandarin or Arabic? get some books that teach basic arabic, reading and writing, they usually come with CD's for speaking, make sure you know what dialec you want to learn. then find a language partner, someone that speaks arabic that wants to improve their english, something like that.
i'm sure there's also online classes too, or you could take language classes at a university

Re: How will I EVER learn Mandarin or Arabic? have u considered studying overseas? there are a lot of foreigners who are studying abroad as it's easier to pick up any language when u are dropped right smack in the middle of their society

I'm throwing you a curve ball here...Try some Turkish first..Hard to master..get a little down the road..you will see Arabic is easier than Mandarin..but Turkish will stretch you so that..the latters maybe(!) a little easier...Apart from that...suck it and see...go there,if you got some cash....Doesn't cost an arm and a leg (kidding)...Cheaper than Europe...OHH Forget about that now..I just remembered..go to Turkey!

Re: How will I EVER learn Mandarin or Arabic? Well as an English speaker learning mandarin it does come slowly. The structures are unusual but once you get the basic word order it does become easier. Learning characters is a challenge but that is part of the intrest. Possibly get yourself along to a community class or teach a Mandarin/Arabic speaker English in return for lessons.
