How would a GCSE in English help me in my life?
I am considering gaining a GCSE in English, more for the sake of it, and to fulfill an interest than for any other reason. It will more than likely be in English language.
However, In what way would this help me in my life? What could I do with it should I choose to use it?
Probably a silly question to some, but it would be helpful to gather some ideas from people.
Thanks. I'm 29, so please bear that in mind. Its slightly harder to change careers at 29 than 19.

My brother told me a GCSE in English is important for any decent-paying job (I was going through a phase where I thought KS3 English was boring!)
So you may as well get one
Good luck xxxxxxxx

On a practical level, it would indicate a certain level of class and intelligence to some employers. And on a personal level, it will start to crack open your eyes to some amazing things that exist in the world - some poetry, some art, some literature. And this will stay with you and help you to grow as a person through the rest of your life, enshalla!

hopefully give you an introduction to some great literature, encourage you to try some creative writing, improve ( if necessary) your spelling, grammar etc., unfortunately it will depend on how enthusiastic your teachers are for their subject - best of luck

Most employers look for English, Maths and a Science [English being the most important] when choosing which applicants they are going to interview.
It will help you get interviews and even if it was your only achievement, who would you choose to interview, the applicant with the English exam or the one with no exams!

Well it will help to improve vocabulary and grammar, im guessing your not at school? Well usually a good grade at GCSE will get you into college which means you can do A levels which will then help you to get into university to do a degree for your chosen career. So a GCSE can open some paths.
It can also get you a job, im 19 and i did my GCSE'S got B's and C's and i got 3 C's in my A levels, but when i go for an interview its not the grades they look for its the experience.
But if its something your intrested in to pass time etc, then go for it there cant be no harm.

on a educational / job basis you can hardly do anything now without english / maths gcse
Chances of being accepted on courses for further ed. are very slim, and most employers expect it now.
My sister went to back to school at 38 wanted to go into teaching and she had to have english maths science gcse - it did n't matter about age, they expected it from ALL students

It shows an employer that you have reached a reasonable level of literacy in English.
Many jobs now specify that applicants should have good GCSE (C or better) in English (and Maths!)
