I have a BA Hons in English, Grad Cert Ed in FE lecturing, Tefl qualified, possess practical and theoretical music qualifications to grade 8, and a good HNC in Music Technology and Sound recording.
I've also released an album, singles and various tracks on small run indie labels, written successfully for Spanish TV, and have used computers extensively over the past 13 years.
I'm currently studying for the Comptia A+ PC support and maintenance qualification and wish to gain either Cisco or Msce/a qualifications. I've been told I'm too old to start a career in this field!
I've got good references, and a decent CV. What do people think - employers and employees: is it too late to make the change? Thanks for any answers in advance. Gritmo.

In my mind it's never too late. With the experience you have im sure you will have a head start in whatever you choose to do. Of course some jobs require the younger generation because they could eventually control the company or whatever. But they don't have the experience like you do. So go for it and if all fails the first time keep trying. You will be glad that you did in the end. Good luck.

In my opinion (as a computer programmer), it really depends on you. You have to realize that in the field of computing, everything is always changing, so you have to be ready to always be learning and relearning things you thought you knew.

My boss is over 40, but he is doing fine in programming, and is still learning new methods and new things every day.

But if you want something you can learn today, and use tomorrow without having to learning anything new, I think that computing is not for you.

You can be whatever you want to be as long as you have the passion for it. What you are learning today will only add to your resume/CV. And I believe this will be all for the better. I dont believe that in the field of computer programming, age matters. You can start a small business of your own or teach in a formal class of computer programming. Or, you can offer your services as trainor to small companies going into computerization of their accounting, HR, operations, inventory systems and the like. Good luck.
