I am from India. I need tips to speak English in American accent.?
I am from India. I know the English language very well. All I want is to learn to speak English in the way the Americans do - in Amercan accent. So Please give me some techniques regarding the same.
I know a few of the techniques already, like:
1. Roll the R's
2. Bite the lips for v's
Can you help me out with the rest (explaining them in detail)...
regards,

Why bother trying to sound American? If you are able to express yourself fluently and well, probably even better than American do themselves, they why bother with the accent? That will not make you be more accepted.
International communication in English brings a multitude of accents into the language, that is a fact, as is your having taken the trouble to learn it when they make no effort whatsoever to acquire another language.

Why would you want to get rid of your beautiful accent? I love foreign accents! Don't even worry about it! If Americans don't like it, too bad for them!

I too am from India. I take English language classes.
American english has different meanings& spellings..eg, colour is color.
You must attend TOEFL classes, that is "TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE" here you are taught how word and spellings are used differently in various countries.

why do u have to speak English in American accent ? are u acting in any drama or movie? if not why don't u talk English in Indian way ? what is wrong with that ? Indian accent is better to understand than American accent. Americans r born with that accent.why should we ape them?

hahaha, in the first place why you want to sound like american? i dont want to degrade you but even how hard you try to sound american youre still an indian by looks! and by the way, its not really americans who speak the english language well, ask the english people.
My only advise is ,speak the language u like the way you want it. What is important is you connect to the people your thoughts. Perfect grammar and perfect accent? but no one understands you? better to forget it!
Be proud of your language as im proud of mine too! Mabuhay ang pilipinas at India!! Namaste!

I understand you wanting to learn the language and be able to speak it, but be yourself!
Your individuality is what makes you, you. Enjoy it. You will pick up on all different ways to speak with english accent w/out being here too long, trust me!
And they roll their 'R''s in Spanish not English honey!
You be good and hang w/a good crowd. Have fun and learn lots while you are here.
Come, have fun and Enjoy the Life!
Good Luck 2 You! :)

I don't really know a lot of other techniques, but the best I can say is to hang out with people who are Americans and who have accents. Or watch American TV. I can understand if you want to improve your accent, if you're finding a hard time communicating with others, but you don't need to feel like you have to have an American accent to speak English. Just for the record, I'm Indian too. You should be proud of your accent - so many people in the world have accents when speaking a language that is not their own. As long as people can understand what you're saying; I'd say you're good to go!

Re: I am from India. I need tips to speak English in American accent.?
Oh goodness. WHere is your self confidence? this is not a problem of accent. THis is a problem of self image.
You think you have to speak like the americans to be in america. WHat is wrong with your indian accent? Oh how disgusting it must be for you to feel like this?
You are a foreigner. You will get the hang of it speaking to americans. Why do you want to go to this extent? Be proud of your indian accent. At least you can tell people you are from India when they ask you about your accent.
I think you have confidence problems not english language problems and it is better to get that sorted out first.
