How old are the students?

A good standby is always a newspaper. Read an article about current events/politics and get a dialouge going about opinions, likes/dislikes, history or future predictions.

Besides the websites (which can be very useful!), I have found it very useful to break up my 3 hour class into segments. I begin my class with a short writing assignment pertaining to things that we learned the day before. (for example: if the day before we learned vocabulary about friends, I make them write a letter to their friend).

Next I give them the new vocabulary for the day. We work together to make sure that everyone understands it.

Then I read aloud the dialogue that I have made up for the day using the vocabulary list. I read it 2x, then have them read it to each other in groups twice, then have different groups come up front to demonstrate it for the class.

We then read a short (1 or 2 paragraph) story that uses the vocabulary.

Then I have them do some kind of activity that will allow them to use that vocab/grammar rule.

Of course, I try to use games, etc. too as much as possible!
