I want to learn another language besides english but I can't?
I'm a black male 23 yrs old and I am proficient in the english language. When I was little instead of reading Dr. Seuss, I read a dictionary. I wanted to learn my language to a level where I mastered it.
I want to learn spanish so bad but I just can't grasp learning. I want to know why that is. Is it because I'm so use to english and I feel comfortable learning english?
will I be the same, determined person when I learn spanish?
Will I be proficient in spanish like I am in english?
I want to learn spanish and travel to south america but I always say to myself "go to the philippines, guyana etc" I dont want to feel like an asshole I do want to learn spanish.
advice?

Happens to everyone I think.
You just got to stick with your goals and give it some time. Each day you work at it, the closer you get.

Just get a spanish language book or some program (http://www.rosettastone.com/ , for example) and get goin'...
Remember: Better late than never (not that you are late, but just a quote of inspiration.)

Drop "espanish" and learn German. You already know between 4,000-10,000 words of German and you didn't even know it...i.e. Eisburg (iceburg), Arm, Finger, Knie (knee), Telefon, Photo, etc.

The best advice I think I can give is pack your bags and travel now. If you want to learn a language no text book in the world will teach you as fast as having to learn because your hungry, need the bathroom, or think that spanish chic sitting across the room is HOT. Good luck!

Where do you want to go in South America? I don't want you putting a lot of time learning Spanish and then traveling to Brazil :-) (Portuguese language, hello!!)
You can start by readinga book in Spanish and having the same book in English on the side. Then get the dictionary and learn 5 new words every day (if you try to learn a lot of words you will forget them all) then try to use those words in sentences or ask some spanish speaking friend to use those words in a sentence for you.
Practice with friends!
The fastest way to learn a language is to be under pressure, like if you go to a Spanish speaking country (where people do not speak English with you) then you will have to learn to get by!
You will do it!!

Try tutoring, don't give up or use the word can't.

I prefer to learn Mandarin first. Because it is more important to learn Mandarin than other dialect when you learn Chinese. Every one around China can understand Mandarin, but only a small part of population can understand Cantonese. Check this site http://www.hellomandarin.com/, and it tells you more about Mandarin.
