Is it possible to get a good job teaching english in mexico if I have only a year of college education but no degree, and no real experience to speak of, but i do have my TEFL certificate?
I'm also semi fluent in spanish and would get much better after living there for a short time.

Also, are there any other jobs possibilities in mexico for young gringos such as myself?

I'm not looking to live extravagantly, Just survive comfortably.

yes i think you could land something without too many problems. if you have the tefl cert that would be enough, often in such countries the main thing is to be a native speaker of english, and your spanish will help you too. just google 'tefl jobs mexico' and you will see heaps of websites... try and make contact with people who have taught there as they can probably give you a good idea of which places are good and which are dodgy.... good luck

HI! I have been teaching for about a year now...in Prague...but I know plenty of people who are teaching with just a TEFL certificate. It just depends on what country you want to teach in.

You can definitely get a teaching job in Mexico with a TEFL Certificate. Mexico is one place that does not require a BA for teachers - at least most schools don't. Being a native speaker is your most bankable commodity, so make sure that you note that in your CV and cover letter. Also note that you speak Spanish.

Do you already have your TEFL Cert? If you do, then also get a letter of recommendation from your teachers there as well. Every little bit helps.

The cost of living there is low, so you should be able to live comfortably.

China would take you. Taiwan too. Mexico could well insist on a first degree in whatever subject.

You could. I guess it depends on the school you're applying for and the kind of certification they're looking for. Being a school in Mexico I would imagine they are not going to be as strict as teaching in the USA.
