Let's make a list of the best tips to learn languages! Need help to improve my English :)?
Hello!
The title is quite straightforward.
I have been reading a lot of websites on learning languages the past years and even though I have improved in English (4-5 years ago I couldn't speak one word of it...) I would be very happy to get advice from you all on how to learn languages.
Don't be shy, you can give funny advice if you want, as long as it is plausible that it'll help!!!
Thanks :)

1) Interact with natives of your target language. Talk and listen.
2) Read books, magazines ... in your target language to increase your vocabulary and be familiar with grammar structures. Read.
3) Watch TV, Cd, listen to radio in your target language. Listen.
4) Write, improve your writing skills. Write.

the best advice is to watch movies and TV in the language and try talking with someone who speaks your native tongue that also knows English well.

Speak it. A lot. Immerse yourself in the language, if you can. IE live where it is the primary language spoken, speak only in that language, etc.
If immersion isn't an option, listening to music and watching tv are options, but tv is better. Music is notoriously hard to translate, and lyrics often don't have any real meaning. They are often put in for rhythm or rhyming purpose and are essentially gibberish. Watch a variety of tv and movies including news because generally news broadcasts use a different style of language that is not only more formal but also uses a very different set of vocabulary. For movies and tv, watch comedies and dramas. These will give you a better understanding of the social structure of the language and how the native speakers of the language think. Understanding thought processes of a culture is the key to really understanding the language and vice versa. You can't truly learn one without the other, unfortunately. Amazingly though, you can reinforce both quite effectively by trying to include the other even if you have very little knowledge.
Speaking to a native speaker as often as possible is a major help. There are now a lot of language "meetup" and "meet in" groups that are quite effective at helping people practice a new language with native speakers and other "newbies" as well.
Find as many sources as possible so your understanding of the language is varied. Don't think you'll learn everything from Rosetta Stone or any other single source. Learning is all about experience so the more varied experience you get, the more you learn.
Good luck.

- Listen to music and try to get the song lyrics. Or read them and sing along. :-)
- Watch movies and TV series (preferably the ones you like). Subtitles in English can help.
- Write compositions and have someone to correct it, in case you're not attending an English course.
- If you have the chance, travel to an English-speaking country, or live there for a while - even better.
- Write down the words and expressions you learn, and go through them once in a while.
- Make English-speaking friends. :)
- Read magazines and websites.
... and use all these in the way it works best for you! You can have for example a visual memory - in this case reading would be better than only listening to it.
By the way, congrats for your English!
;-) take care, bye.
