BRONCING=Comes from BRONCO, that is a wild horse from North America.
BUCK=male of some animals.

i would guess it rhymes with " truck". that is its only meaning.

and "lonely" and " pink carnation" go together because the carnation is for his date, if he still has the carnation, he does not have a date.

also " broncin buck " ( not sure of correct spelling) refers to a wild horse . or a horse in a rodeo. they "buck" ( jump, kick up their rear end) to try to throw the rider.

i think he was just trying to say he was a typical rural teenager on the " day the music died ".

please dont use songs to learn English. if you insist, dont ever listen to "Macarthur park".

frank s is exactly right with the explanation for the pink carnation; Don Mclean is trying to say he had no date, probably for what we know as "prom" here in the States...

As for the 'broncin' buck', his definition is correct. In the context of the song, I believe Don is trying to say that he was a lonely teenage boy who, like so many of us at that age, could be very difficult to to get to know and spend time with, and so be difficult to be friends with... and that it would be especially difficult for him to find a girlfriend, or for a girl to be (and stay) his girlfriend.

To put it all in context:
