Native English speakers, please help me find an appropriate verb to express the following idea:?

 Native English speakers, please help me find an appropriate verb to express the following idea:? "An earthquake took place. I just kept this sweater, these pants and life".
What I mean is that everything I owned was gone, except for the above.
(By the way, this is a fictional situation, since I'm not the one in such circunstances).
I thank you very much in advance for this.

I would guess that you would try to "keep" everything you own when the earthquake took place so saying that you just kept the certain items would be incorrect.
To list what you are "left" with would be more correct as you didn't have a choice.
