Native English speakers, please help me find an appropriate verb to express the following idea:?
"An earthquake took place. I just kept this sweater, these pants and life".
What I mean is that everything I owned was gone, except for the above.
(By the way, this is a fictional situation, since I'm not the one in such circunstances).
I thank you very much in advance for this.

"Vikinkii" answered it nicely.
I would guess that you would try to "keep" everything you own when the earthquake took place so saying that you just kept the certain items would be incorrect.
To list what you are "left" with would be more correct as you didn't have a choice.

An earthquake happened, taking everything but this sweater, these pants, and my life.

We experienced a severe earthquake and I lost everything, except this sweater, these pants and my life.

"There was a severe earthquake. I lost everything except this sweater, these pants and my life!"
(This is a more dramatic expression of what happened to you.)

An earthquake took place. The only things I have left are this sweater, these pants, and my life.
That's how I'd say it.

After the earthquake took place, all I had left was my life and the clothes I had on my back!
