I am legally immigrating to the USA. I have BA in English and I am an ESL teacher with 17 years experience, but I think teaching doesn't pay good. So is it a good idea to start small business of my own? I will be staying in NY. If yes and if I can save about $30000, what are examples of the kind of business I can start with this sum, and how is expected to earn from it?
PLS suggest plans for me, even if the business is to study in a school, clarify which school I can go to that is demended in the market with a high pay.

You could try starting up an after school tutoring service. I hear that students in general aren't doing too good in NY city schools. You might be able to get some government funding if you set yourself up as a non profit organization. Even though the owners don't make a profit you can pay yourself, and your workers a salary(it's not volunteer work).

You could be a specialized tutor and only work with a small number of clients, but charge higher rates. Also, there is a high immigrant population in New York. You could try focusing on teaching immigrants english. I dont know what your ESL stands for so I don't know how to suggest doing that.

Great post. It's not easy to open a small business. Most small business fail (statistically). I lost a lot of money trying to open a website.

I was really down about losing my money when a friend introduced me to a really cool way to get started on the web. There's a company that matches companies selling products with people that want to promote the products (the name of the company is Keep Clicking). I joined for free (actualy, they paid me $10, but I didn't get that until I had $50 in my account which took me about a month).

Most of the products I promote are free trial offers (it's kind of like magazines where the person can try a month free). The products usually ship for $4, and I get about $17! So I have no inventory, and I made over $1,200 last month.

Anyway, it's the best way to make money that I've seen, and it's free.

The first thing you should do is look into what kind of taxes your business will be subject to in NY. I hear that state is terrible in what it assesses, especially on small businesses.
