Ive noticed most jobs in south korea and japan require degrees. what is the minimum and what should i do to maximise my chance of obtaining a job. Where is the best location to teach?

Hi there, I started my teaching career in Asia teaching TEFL. If you don't have a bachelor's degree you will find it difficult because having one is usually a requirement of the immigration department to get your work permit.

You would have more luck getting a working permit without a degree in Eastern Europe.

Good luck with your job-search,

Here are two websites you should look at:

www.eslcafe.com - the largest most comprehensive overseas teaching site - it has job forums, teacher forums, job boards etc. and if you ask your question there, you'll get great answers from people in the know.

The second website is:

www.transitionsabroad.com

Requirements are less strict in China, especially outside the big cities. But you'd need to turn up and take a chance. And pay is a lot less than Korea or Japan etc. No better place to live though! A very happenin' country!

China, Mexico, Venezuela and Taiwan seem to be the most open to non-BA English Teacher candidates. As someone mentioned, positions in China are usually in smaller city centers as the large cities require a minimum of a BA degree.

For more information about the various ESL markets around the world and requirements to teach in these markets, refer to http://www.oxfordseminars.com/esl-count ... /index.php.
