Post Becoming an ESL teacher?
I am interested in pursuing a teaching career in Italy so I can be closer to my family. Can I major in Italian Studies and then get my ESL certification certificate? Do you have to major in Education to become a teacher? Do you have to get your credentials then get ESL certified? Or is a ESL certificate enough?? I am hoping that someone with personal experience can help. Thanks in advanced.

not sure about Italy, but to teach in the USA you need a teaching degree and state certificate in ESL. I have a MA in TESOL and a state certificate. I think abroad, they are less strict. I have a friend who taught esl in Guatemala and he was just trained by a company. maybe you can find some answers on http://www.eslcafe.com

ESL in Italy is not very big plus you would make more money in the USA i tought in spain for several years and knew several ESL teachers, you better off over here for the pay but over there for the family and yes esl certificate is enough
