I was never good at Math. I get nervous going to a class that deals with numbers. I get embarrased when were in groups and I'm the only one who doesn't know what to do. I go to college but still don't know most of my multiplication tables. Maybe because during elementary when my class was learning them I was always sent to ESL class, and I never got to catch up. Recently my Math Proffesor told me maybe I was in the wrong class, insulting but what can I do? Since I have to take math classes to get a degree, I'm thinking about just giving up.

Don't give up, see if you can find a tutor for help, or ask someone in the class if they could explain some things. If you have to take the class over that is okay too, but you shouldn't give up your dream just because you are not as strong in one area. If you are planning to teach a certian subject like history, or english, then you won't need the math too much, if elementry, then you'll need to teach some basic math skills. Maybe you can take a more easier math class and then retry this class once you got that.

Do not ever give up. Follow what you like, not what others think you should do!. Teachers are lousy advisors, I failed statistics classes 3 times, took tutor on saturdays, finally I past the exam. Just could not sink into my head. I always believed it did not matter what grades were or my failed classes. Because in the end I would excel, perhaps I was slower than others, but the turtle completed the race, and excelled but I believed in the reality of outside the teachers class. Follow what you think you would like to do only.

if u really want to be a teacher, dont give up. u could switch toa different math class, or take one on the side to catch up on what u don't know. either way dont give up. u dont want to become something else, then be like 'i wish i had become a teacher'.

Well if you want to be a teacher you must believe that people can be taught knowledge. So you should probably just invest in having a tutor. They have tutors for all levels of math, just start over at the beginning with a home tutor. That way you can move quickly past what you do understand, and spend more time on what's complicated. You can learn math. And you must realize the importance of math, particularly in our new technological age, so you would be doing your future students a great disservice if you were not prepared to present a positive outlook on math. so if you're unwilling to learn math, then you shouldn't teach b/c you'd be going against the whole point of your chosen profession.

I was reading something the other day about math phobia and people's success, or lack thereof, in math:

Success in math, for most people, is 20% talent, 80% hard work.

Also what was said: there's no such thing as being a person who is just not good at math.

Think of something you can spend hours and hours on, some hobby you enjoy, perhaps being online. If you spent that much time working on learning your multiplication tables and on getting help in math and reviewing all the old stuff, what do you think your marks in math would be like?

If your dream is to become a teacher, then do it. Make sure you're in the easiest math class you can be in, and make sure you do everything you can to pass it. You CAN do something if you decide to do something. Get help, get worksheets from an easier level of math and do lots of them until you get 100% on all of them, then get worksheets for the next grade level. There are tons of places online.

Basically, it boils down to this: you will accomplish what you set out to accomplish. If you set out to fail at math, that is what you will get, and you will NOT become a teacherl. Is that what you really want?
