Spanish help, can someone explain verb conjugations to me?
Well, basically, I just need to know verb tenses. If someone could explain how to conjugate -ar verbs with all the forms, like past, future, etc., that would be great. Thank you! Anyone? This isn't a homework question, I'm in a Spanish class that is going too slow for me, so I decided to ask some real people, instead of consulting a website that wants me to click some button that says, "click here to get keylogged, and then spiked" to learn Spanish. It's not homework. Gracis ustedes! ^_^

Re: Spanish help, can someone explain verb conjugations to me?
Esther has explained it well I think. However, imperfect past tense is for actions which took place over a period of time, but have now finished. whereas perfect past is for a one off event. Example: I wrote an email to my friend recently and I wanted to know if another friend (Mark) was with him during a two week trip which has now ended. I used estaba (imperfect). If I'd wanted to know if he was only there for a day I would have used fue (perfect).
In Latin America the you plural (-eis, -ais) form is generally not used.
Another way of forming future tense (which is more common) is to use the verb ir + infinitive of the verb. So voy estudiar espanol esta noche=I'm going to study spanish tonight.
Good luck with it.

Re: Spanish help, can someone explain verb conjugations to me?
Hi! well you don't worry is easy:
well, we will use as example the verb 'hablar', the root of the verb is habla, ok?
so present is:
yo hablo
tu habla-s
el habla
nosotros habla-mos
vosotros habla-is
ellos habla-n (of course the symbol - is not written, I have written it, to explain it better)
imperfect past (is used for not very past actions)
yo habla-ba
tu habla-bas
el habla-ba
nosotros habla-bamos
vosotros habla-bais
ellos habla-ban
perfect past (it's a finished past)
yo hable
tu habla-ste
el hablo
nosotros habla-mos
vosotros habla-steis
ellos habla-ron
future
yo habla-re
tu habla-ras
el habla-ra
nosotros habla-remos
vosotros habla-reis
ellos habla-ran
well, I think these are the basics, if you have any doubt, please, ask it...

Re: Spanish help, can someone explain verb conjugations to me?
There are irregular verbs and regular verbs. The regular verbs have the same endings.
Take tener-to have
It's irregular. To conjegate it you'd do this:
tengo-I have
tienes-you have
tiene-he/she has
tenemos-we have
tienen-they have
Hablar-to speak These are the conjugations.
hablo
hablas
habla
hablamos
hablan
All regular verbs ending in -ar have the same conjugation endings.
-o -I
-as - you
-a - he/she (you formal)
-amos -we
-an - they
bailar- to dance
bailo- I dance
bailas-you dance
baila -he/she (you formal) dance
bailamos- we dance
bailan-they dance
These are present conjugations. Later on you will learn past, future, etc. conjugations.
