Post Spanish speakers in the US a little bit lazy to learn English - what are your thoughts?
I am an Irish American and I speak Spanish fluently and I don't even need it for my job or to get by in my life. I studied every chance I could, rented movies in Spanish and have listened to Spanish music to learn the language better. I also have several Spanish speakers for friends and I find they take it for granted that I speak Spanish and so don't really try English with me. I ask all the time how to say things in Spanish but they never ask me how to say stuff in English. When I ask for a Span/Eng dictionary at their houses almost none of them have one....I love Spanish and the culture but I am a little disappointed that I have worked so hard to speak a language other than English (most anglophones don't bother) and yet they don't seem to really practice or try b.c Spanish is so prevalent here in Miami. I think English is hard to learn if you don't try

I have said it to their faces many times I think they have a bad attitude about learning English... what do you think?

What's your educational level? What's theirs? Well-educated Latinos do speak English. Those who don't are usually illiterate even in their own language. I've learned Spanish too and often come across badly-written Spanish by these people. If they were already educated and well off in their homeland, they wouldn't bother risking their life coming here. Those who did get in probably didn't even study past the grammar school there. They actually do know some English, just a little to get by.

They are very lazy and uneducated. They don't like to learn and work. They rather sell tamales and tortillas in the streets..

As long as people keep learning Spanish, what incentive do they have to learn ENGLISH?
