Here you can find a lot of autors and may start with one you have already read in your language. Or try Aesop's Fables, they are short and easy.

English is a pretty difficult language to pick up as a second language. I would really encourage you to seek out some additional instruction/training where you get to interact in English, often.
As for books, if you're doing this strictly to learn basic English, I would recommend some popular lit such as Stephen King, Michael Crighton - the stuff you can find in the supermarket. You may consider some Reader's Digest condensed versions of works, which are usually in simplified English.
If you want to tackle English-language literature straight on, I'd start you off Robert Frost (poetry), Stephen Crane's *The Red Badge of Courage,* anything by Graham Greene. Avoid Shakespeare because his English is 400 years old and has words that many contemporary English speakers have trouble with.
Another option is to buy an English-language work in translation and in your native language, and compare the two. You should understand English grammar and have a good vocabulary in place when you do it, because translations aren't always exactly word-for-word.
In my humble opinion, English rocks. Good luck as you learn it.

Suggest you start with Grimm's Fairy Stories or short stories like those by Roald Dahl. Work your way up to something as long as a novel in easy stages. Work written for children will have a simpler vocabulary.
A gripping novella is One Day In The Life of Ivan Desinovich, by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, about life in the Soviet labour camps.
When you graduate to novels try Animal Farm by George Orwell or Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
Good luck!

Maybe any books by Laura Ingalls Wilder- The "Little House" books are easy and a good read.
