URGENT. ESL/English teachers: Any ideas on how to teach a lesson about 'a night out' ?
I'm being observed on Friday and need this to be as perfect as possible. Already have some ideas but need more advice from experienced teacher.
This term, I taught 'Getting to know the UK' and Friday will be my last lesson so I decided to do it on 'A night out in Newcastle'. I was thinking, I don't really want to focus too much on the clubbing side of things as they are all over 30. Maybe something a long the lines of meals, theatre, bars etc.
How would you present the language when teaching a topic like this and what kind of activities would you do?
Really need this asap as I am planning my lesson now!
Many thanks! Brilliant idea, thank you so much. I'll think up of an event tonight and put it in the lesson plan.

Great idea! The clubbing side of things isn't always a true representation of a night out - but something like theatre (live theatre or movies) can apply to any group - drinkers or non-drinkers. How about setting up a mythical night out, when you will plan a trip with your class to watch a pop icon - or even a mythical Beetles reunion. You can discuss how to get to the event (bus, taxi, automobile - how about parking?) meeting before the event for dinner, what happens during intermission , and all that.
Presenting language can include ordering tickets, asking directions for the bus, finding seating in the theatre, ordering meals, making small talk - what is currently a hot topic in the newspaper or on the television - etc.etc.
Sounds like a great lesson cominig up.
