ok..so i have a show coming up on march 1 this is my 4th show. I ride english and i recently started to ride western to get ready for the upcoming show. So im doing pretty well but the horse i ride goes so fast! I try to pull up on the reins, sit on the pockets but nothing works...he just keeps going! I pulled up my reins once and it worked a couple of times but how could i do that in the show... the judge would mark me down every time he would see me doing that. Also do u guys have any tips for a english rider trying to learn western? Thanks so much!

Re: western tips for an english rider!?
While training and he starts to speed up sit him down hard then immediately back up 3 or 4 steps. The little light bulb will go on, and he will soon realise that trying to go fast is just going to end up in a hard stop and back. Then as you start to ask for the restraint as he jogs too fast he should slow down.
