well the question pretty much says it, i'm looking for a book that would be a good starter for a guy who is still getting the english basics down, but not too babyish.

also if the books are about animals who can like talk and stuff thats extra good

4th to 8th grade is a pretty big jump... but I'd say I enjoyed the Narnia collection when I was in that age group, and I still enjoy it today. Also, try the boxcar children, as well as the Wayside School series, which is fun to read at any age, though normally is meant for younger children, maybe a bit below 4th.

Other good ones... "The Giver," "Number the Stars," and of course you can't forget "Holes." :)
