There are lots of buisness oppertunities with learning a language.
Lots of compnies use people who speak other languages to translate and most of them pay a lot better then their regular employees

It's good for business. The funny thing is now in Japan many are learning Mandarin Chinese because China's economy is booming.

self improvement, a new understanding of another culture,
a new way to confuse people and have fun w/ it, a larger vocabulary, increased brain function ( i read somewhere that as long as we keep learning our brains will continue to rejuvenate and remain healthy instead of slowly slipping into decay ), critical thinking skills are a few things.

 Re: what can i gain from learning japanese?
* The satisfaction of learning a foreign language
* The satisfaction of learning an Asian language that is completely different to English
* Business opportunities in Japan
* A deeper appreciation of foreign cultures and languages
* A more fulfilling holiday in Japan (should you choose to go there)
* Potential to live there permanently
* Ability to communicate with Japanese people

Like how I am learning German(third year), it is spoken mainly in the country, but many people know it as a second language because of business and innovation. Japan is like Germany in a way, center of western culture in the region, very economical, and very technical innovators. You should learn it, Japanese is becoming a high demand in the Asian influences in America.
