What is the problem with grammar for children and teens?
My daughter is 15 and I am repeatedly correcting the same grammar mistakes. "Me and Mary went to the mall" and "My friend Mary, she went to the mall". It drives me a little nuts. I tell her that until she corrects her sentence I will not listen or respond because I want her to know correct grammar usage. I also require her to write complete sentences for email and texting (though I think she doesn't when I'm not checking :-) Anyway, I think it's a repeated problem because that's how all her friends speak. Do parents and teachers not correct children when they use incorrect grammar? What do you think will happen to future generations if this trend continues? I know foreigners who speak better than native-born Americans. Thoughts? I also hate, "My took Mary and I to the mall." I've heard this on the radio with DJs a lot.
I - Subject
Me - Direct or Indirect Object.
Aaargh! I meant, "My mother took Mary and I to the mall." :-)

Re: What is the problem with grammar for children and teens?
Many things. It's SO common in the U.S. to use "Me and Mary" although I kick myself when I do it and immediately change it. I've grown up for 17 years saying it the wrong way and I'm trying to change it. As for e-mail, yeah, the majority of kids my age shorten virtually everything so that you have to sit there for twenty extra minutes trying to figure it out. I hate when people do that. It doesn't even take that long to type all of this out properly! Teachers do correct us, but I think the majority of them are just overwhelmed by how cruddy our grammar is. They've just given up perhaps. If this trend continues, den i thnk we got a sriz prob... u kno? all da teens n stuff r gonna go round tlkin lyk dis.. i thnk den ill move to a diff contry.
