I want to learn Japanese, but of course there are way too many programs, each one saying that they're the best. So, which one really is?
What about those programs that you have to buy (like Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, etc.)? I've been looking at Instant Immersion, does anyone have any experience with it?

Online?
This will help.
http://japanese.about.com/od/japaneselessons/a/wheredoibegin.htm

It has introductory lessons, excercises, games, and voice files [Audio phrasebooks] for beginners. :)

You should enroll if you have nihongo class at your school. X3

Pimsleur audiotapes are quite useful in learning the spoken language, though it doesn't focus very much on grammar.

I've tried Rosetta Stone for Japanese level 1 before. The program tries to imitate the way children learn their first language - through associations with images and sounds, not through translations. My opinion of the program is that while it's good for vocabulary, I'm not so sure it's great for learning the entire language. It's quite expensive as well. =/
