What should I do to become a social worker in California?
I want to get a social work job in California. I am not sure what's the best to get started in the SF Bay Area. I got master's degree in social work in Japan and then got a teaching job at vocational school (college level) and taught for two years. And I have several volunteer/intern experiences at nonprofit organizations in Japan and in the U.S.
I am interested in social work for domestic violence survivors like shelters, hospitals etc. So, I'm wondering how I could get involved in working in the field.
Do I need schooling in the U.S.? If so, what kind of classes do I have to take? Do I have to go to graduate school one more time in the U.S. to get American MSW degree? And do I need advanced English (ESL) certificates, or adult class work to get a job?
I will have my green card sometime soon then will move to the U.S. to live with my husband and will be able to work legally. I know it would be challenging but would be very nice to know what I need to go forward.

Put this idea into a script and post it on YouTube with your in-person resume: Harper Lee's characters Mayella and Scout can SWAP FAMILIES for 40 days in a 2007 version of To Kill A Mockingbird? This a great movie idea!?

You would have to be a bare faced Liberal. Join with the feminists. And, promote a socialist government.

The best place to start would be to talk to someone that works at a Domestic Violence Office. You have great creditals to work there. I have worked on and off in this field for quite a few years now and I love it..but just to let you know..You certainly won't get rich doing a job like that. You will also be required to take a domestic violence training and sexual assault course. As for the classes it all depends on what you are looking to do. I have no formal training but worked as a victims advocate. Good luck in whatever you do.

You sound very intelligent. I don't know the answer, but I bet you would already be qualified to some extent. I would start by looking for jobs on http://socialservice.com/search.cfm which seems to allow you to put in the state (California), position you want, and the degree you have already earned in Japan.
Your english sounds fine to me!
You could also try searching at http://www.socialwork.com/
Good luck with your green card & job and everything!!!
