Post Which one should I learn, Mandarin or Cantonese?
I have started to learn Mandarin and Cantonese, but can't decide which one to learn. I know Mandarin is the official language of China, but I know many Chinese people also speak Cantonese. Which one is better to learn for speaking Chinese? Please help. (If you're Chinese that would really help) Thanks.

Mandarin is more widespread.

It would be Mandarin. Cantonese is quite similar to Mandarin. If you can speak Mandarin, Cantonese shouldn't be much of a problem.

Mandarin definitely, it's the national language for China.
Cantonese is basically a dialect for one region of China, Guang Dong.
Cantonese is only spoken in Hong Kong and Guangdong province of China.
Most people in big cities in the province of Guangdong speak mandarin too anyway.
The Guangdong province used to be written as Canton, hence the language Cantonese

Mandarin is also an easier language to learn as there are less tones used.

i'm lucky enough to speak cantonese from my family
and i'm really struggling at mandarin at school, lol the teacher actually told me to drop it

Mandarin is more common in Asia and more useful, but I speak Cantonese and I think it's way cooler. Also, we have better food and a more fun and entertaining culture. Hong Kong (where most Cantonese speakers come from) is such a tourist destination too. It is an amazing place to visit.

It depends on where you live or where you want to go. In my city, many people speak Cantonese, but I've noticed that in a lot of other places, people speak Mandarin.

Really, I believe that it is a bit more useful to speak Mandarin. In my experience, Cantonese-speakers tend to already know Mandarin anyway, (as they believe it to be more popular) but Mandarin-speakers don't often speak Cantonese.
