By English movies, do you mean movies made in England or just English speaking movies - because Americans, English people, Australians, etc all speak and pronounce the language a little differently. Plus we have regional accents. I, for instance, have a thick Southern accent, and in person, you might find it hard to understand me.

People on CNN speak slowly yes, but in a sort of generic type of English that almost no one in the real English speaking world uses. We all understand it, but we don't speak that way.

Movies are closer to real life.

The best advice I can give you is to see and buy movies with subtitles and try to read along. After a while you will understand the people speaking in the movies better.
