I just got booted from Yangzhou College of Environment and Resources. Despite good student-teacher rapport, good reviews from the dean of the college, it terminated me on the last day of school, citing "health reasons". I was never sick a day! Yangzhou Vocational College of Environment and Resources failed to honor my one-year contract for no reason except that it was inconvenient for me to stay on-campus during the summer. There was no mention of my having to move off-campus and into a hotel for the summer at my expense.

Yangzhou Vocational College of Environment and Resources failed to pay the fines stipulated in the contract. Instead, it had my residency permit changed to a 3-day tourist visa. The next day, my passport was returned to me with the residency permit canceled. I couldn't even look for another job! The school was nice enough to take me to the airport.

Though the students are wonderful, and the dean of the foreign languages department and all of the faculty were wonderful, there's the unscrupulous FAO to deal with.

The place is located in the middle of nowhere. It's a forty minute bus ride to town and a thirty minute bus ride to western-style shopping. If the cafeteria refuses to issue a meal card (as it refused me), you're stuck. You will have to walk a half-hour into the next village or take a bus or taxi into the middle of the city to eat. I've never experienced anything like it in my life.

The accommodations are terrible. You will stay in a one-room dormitory with a cable hanging from the wall where there once was a television. The computers are a mess. Data disappears overnight if you leave your computer on, and you will need to request a new password to gain access to the internet. All windows are barred, and the entry to the foreign teachers' area is a steel-bar prison-type door. It's a bit frightening to think what might happen if there were a fire. There was only one escape: through that steel-bar door.

It also hires people with nothing more than a high school education. I ended up here solely because I wanted to live in Yangzhou. I had no data about this school with which to make an informed decision.
